A web-based powerful charting and analytical application designed for energy market analysts, traders and researchers, accessible with an Internet connection and a web browser.

Client and Server Actions

Client Side Actions: VBA

Most database applications provide some form of query or expression-oriented language, allowing the user free-form interaction and manipulation with the Database. However, invariably, the language is proprietary in nature, with a steep learning curve and heavy support requirement. DataGenic wanted to move away from anything proprietary. That included the database environment, the operating system, the application server, and the user interactive language. Our conclusion? Offer fully integrated Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), client side actions.

Used by millions of users worldwide, VBA is functionally rich and extremely flexible: Additionally, there is usually client in-house expertise and a comfort factor of knowledge. DataGenic extend the power of VBA by providing a .NET API to access Genic DataManager via our web services layer.

Any VBA (or Action) can be imposed on a Template or User Defined Group. Additionally, all VBA code is saved on the Genic DataManager server (acting as a source-safe) and any changes are recorded, versioned and reported. Users also have the ability to roll-back to previous versions.

Server Side Actions: Java

Client side actions are powerful and a welcome addition to the decision support framework for many users. However, some actions are best performed on the server, utilising server processing power whilst ensuring a more robust, controlled and centralised environment.

Using Java, users can write the code from their computer whilst code execution will be on the server side. Similar to client side actions using VBA, any action can be imposed on a Template or User Defined Group. Additionally, all Server Actions are saved on the Genic DataManager server (acting as a source-safe) and any changes are recorded, versioned and reported. Users also have the ability to roll-back to previous versions. Additionally, there is the ability to easily utilise the full suite of Genic DataLibrary functions within the server action.
